The Oracle’s Library invites you to draw a line between the past, present and future. Humanity has an obsession with the fourth dimension—time. Einstein considered the existence of time as the fourth dimension a necessary theoretical framework to help explain reality in harmony with the mathematical calculations of physics.

It becomes difficult to imagine our lives without a beginning and an end. We often see our position in the present as only a frame in time leading up to some future event. We track everyday cycles by seconds, minutes and hours in order to plan our day in sequence with time as it unfolds. Each plan becomes a conscious attempt to influence our position in the fourth dimension. Our ability to perceive and influence events in time is labeled as ‘free will’ or consciousness itself. Despite humanity’s obsession with time, the fourth dimension is less tangible than the third dimension we call home—a land of length, width and height.

Time to the Astrologer

The ticking of time has become a frame of philosophical reference to explain the happenings of reality. The astrologer looked to the stars to define the passage of time and predict events to come using the motion of the celestial bodies. The origins of such a practice were likely derived from the regularity in which the ‘wandering stars’ move across the night sky. When the ancient astronomers began to track these patterns, they also took it upon themselves to assign meaning to the future positions of each planet. Thus, prediction was born from the omens in the sky. Though, we cannot very well ‘prove’ the connection between the movement of celestial objects and what this means for the future, we can still ‘see’ into the future with absolute precision by tracking the movement of the planets.

The Beginning of Ends

origin_284995199Since the beginning of time must also contains all ends of reality as we know it, we often organize time in the form of segments to describe other processes with an ‘initiation’ and ‘conclusion’. Time helps us perceive beginnings and ends. In space, time is necessary to describe the cause for motion, infinite expansion and even gravitational pull. Time connects the past to the future through cause and effect—the basis of scientific method. But, humanity falls short in truly understanding the nature of time, since we are only introduced to a ‘freeze frame’ of the fourth dimension with each passing moment.

Human—Where does it fit into the dimensional scheme of reality?

If we view humanity’s place within the wider realm of existence, we are seeing the product of a three dimensional interpretation of reality. Humans do most of their living in the third dimension, moving from position to position in terms of ‘location’ in a tangible sense—revealed through human sensory perception. However, humans do interact with the fourth dimension through the recall of memories and formation of future plans.

Despite our attempts to imagine outcomes for ourselves, we cannot very well ‘plan’ to win the lottery and succeed in ‘willing’ such an endeavor into reality—for humans have yet to master time. We can only influence the likelihood that such an event will occur by acting on this idea in reality—and so, we buy a lottery ticket. For the reality behind time is that, just like the lottery, events occur according to chance—the outcome of the sequential order of probability and possibility bound by time.
